Imported bronze casket arrives in Ilocos Norte for Marcos’ burial

A top-of-the-line casket for the late president Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr. has arrived in Ilocos Norte more than a month ahead of his scheduled burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani on September 18.

  Imported from the United States, the casket was reportedly made of solid bronze and was personally handpicked by the late strongman’s wife, Imelda Marcos, who is now serving her last term as the Representative of the 2^nd District of Ilocos Norte.

  The price of the casket was not disclosed, but according to Coconuts Manila, a similar casket made by Washington-based Savon Caskets and Urns in the United States costs $6,900 three years ago.

  The remains of Marcos Sr. lies preserved inside a refrigerated glass coffin at the Marcos Museum and Mausoleum in Batac, Ilocos Norte, which is open to the public. But it was closed since Monday, August 8, as the family mortician, Dr. Frank Malabed starts preparing the body for the burial.

According to former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr., his father’s remains would be brought to churches in Sarrat and Paoay in Ilocos Norte so the Ilocanos could pay their last respects to him.

As mentioned in a story published by Philstar on August 8, 2016, Father Carlito “Joey” Ranjo Jr., parish priest of the Sta. Monica Church in Sarrat, said an overnight prayer vigil will be conducted every hour to be participated by the different assigned local government units in the first district of Ilocos Norte including various interest public and private sectors who may wish to pay their last respect to the beloved son of Ilocos Norte.
