This picture of Usain Bolt’s record-breaking run at the 100 meters sprint in Rio Olympics has gone viral over the past few days. The way Usain Bolt poses for a picture in the middle of a run is unbelievable and kudos to the photographer for capturing the brilliance.
People all around the world made memes about this picture, but Ellen DeGeneres, one of USA’s top female comedians and the host of her own successful talk show made this meme –
This is how I’m running errands from now on. #Rio2016 http://pic.twitter.com/gYPtG9T1ao
— Ellen DeGeneres (@TheEllenShow) August 15, 2016
The internet exploded as they called Ellen racist, because she is on the back of a black man, and they took this as a sign of oppressive “white” mentality.
@daibyday @TheEllenShow seriously, WTF?
— iyonah (@iyonah) August 15, 2016
@TheEllenShow You thought it’d be funny to post a pic of yourself riding on the back of a Black man? Nope. Delete this racist garbage.

@fourfivehours @TheEllenShow @usainbolt they were complimented on their strength. So i guess they weren’t racist. http://pic.twitter.com/sXgo85VSvW

@TheEllenShow @usainbolt So riding on his back like a mule, a horse as some form of property is fun to you…
Ok.

However, Ellen made it clear that it was nothing more than a lighthearted attempt to highlight how fast Bolt is.
I am highly aware of the racism that exists in our country. It is the furthest thing from who I am.
— Ellen DeGeneres (@TheEllenShow) August 16, 2016
The backlash is surprising because Usain Bolt himself retweeted the picture –
Was it really racist?
I think it was up to Usain Bolt to get offended or not.
And I think he already made the call.
