Living in an area which is 70 KM away from the nearest medical clinic, the wife of Dash Rath Manji passed away due to an illness when it could have been easily cured if only there is easy access with the medical facilities.
Since then, he vowed that no one else in their village, Gahlour near Bihar, India has to go through the same situation as he did before.
Manjhi proposed to the villager to cut down the mountain to create a short path towards the Wazirganj where the nearest hospital is. But the people living there thought that it would be impossible to do what he is proposing.
In the end, no one help Manjhi but it did not stop him from doing what he thinks is the best thing to do. Some people called him insane and lunatic. But after 22 years, using a crowbar, chisel and a hammer he climbed the top of the mountain and began his work
The efforts of Manjhi fror 22 years finally paid off. It did not only brought recognition to him but also has a huge benefit for the villagers.
