Duterte Admin Eyes Cable Cars As 'Serious' Traffic Solution

With a turnover time of just one year and six months, incoming Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade is seriously considering cable cars as a possible solution in resolving the traffic issues plaguing Metro Manila.
Tugade said the whole idea of using cable cars was one of the most realistic options they can complete within President-elect Rodrigo Duterte’s six-year term, ABS-CBN reported.

“Pag nagdagdag tayo ng kalsada at nag-construct tayo, eh lalong magkaka-traffic. Kung gusto mo ng additional capacity, pumunta ka sa itaas,” he said.

According to Tugade, they might begin the project in Pasig. They are also looking at Makati City and Sta. Rosa, Laguna as prospects for cable car links.
“Pero meron nga akong iniisip na kung maari sa pangmatagalan from Sta. Rosa hanggang Makati, with stations in between. Pinag-aaralan po yung detalye... That is being seriously looked into,” he explained.
He also shared his idea of cable cars serving as a sightseeing vehicle aside from being just a medium for transportation.

Earlier, Tugade said they will ask Congress to bestow Duterte with emergency powers for a period of two years so that their administration could properly address the metro’s traffic mess.
If approved, it will be used to immediately address airport congestion, traffic along EDSA and obstruction on sidewalks.
