Denying the reports that policemen are allegedly tapping contract killers to neutralize drug pushers, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa further claimed authorities can even manage to hunt down ‘bigtime’ drug lords legally.
Earlier, President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on illegal drugs has earned international criticism for purportedly targeting street-level pushers and not powerful drug lords who allegedly enjoy protection from corrupt government and police officials.
However, the tough-talking President showed more fist on the issue by trying to dispel this view by tagging local government officials and ranking policemen in the illegal drug trade. He even named the alleged “narco-politicians” as he threatened them to submit themselves to the authorities to clear their names within 24 hours from the time he revealed the contents of the list.
Meanwhile, several quarters, particularly human rights groups, have strongly criticized the so-called ‘extra-judicial killings’ further calling to stop the unlawful act and urged the government to hold perpetrators accountable, whether they be from the drug syndicates or from law enforcers themselves.
