Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Ismael Sueno has ordered Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa to immediately investigate reports of extrajudicial killings allegedly committed by policemen and so-called vigilantes.
According to Sueno, the present administration does not tolerate unjustified killings of suspects in any manner.
[This administration will not allow vigilante killings of illegal drug or crime suspects, and their unjust killing during police operations.]
The Interior Secretary said all reports of summary killings should be immediately probed, and any policemen found liable thereafter should face charges.
[All cases of vigilante-related killings of drug and crime suspects should be immediately investigation. Those policemen who were proven to have unjustly killed a drug suspect should be immediately charged with administrative disciplinary action.]
Sueno also ordered Dela Rosa to remind his men to follow proper operational procedures when it comes to apprehending suspects.
Tens of thousands of drug pushers and users have surrendered barely two months after Duterte became president. Hundreds more have been killed either in police operations or under mysterious circumstances.
