AFP orders sacking of military in Duterte’s drug list

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is starting to clean up its ranks from those who are allegedly involved in illegal drug trade.

In a statement released Sunday, August 7, AFP Spokesperson Brigadier General Restituto Padilla said: “Our commander-in-chief has already ordered the relief of the identified AFP personnel and to report to the chief of staff.”
These soldiers will be subjected to administrative proceedings and due process will be rendered upon them.
Last Saturday, President Rodrigo Duterte bared a list of government officials who are allegedly protectors or involved in illegal drugs. Majority of the list of more than 150 officials came from the ranks of the military and the police. GMA News Online said that the highest ranking military official in the list is Brigadier Geneal Leoncio Daniega.

Padilla vowed that they “will be unrelenting against illegal drugs.”
For the part of the Philippine National Police (PNP), those personnel tagged in the President’s list was ordered to report to their immediate supervisor.
“We are waiting for these police officers named to report back to their immediate supervisor within 24 hours,” PNP Spokesperson Senior Superintendent Dionardo Carlos said in Filipino.
He called on the men among their ranks to report immediately to their commanders so as to comply with the orders of PNP Chief Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.
He warned that the police leadership will have “zero tolerance” for those tagged in the list.
“Mas mabuti na ang tatayo ay yung mabubuting pulis. Yung mga napangalanan at alam na sila ay sangkot sa iligal na droga, you put them aside. Mas maraming magagaling at matitinong Pilipino na nais magpulis,” he said in a radio interview.
[It’s better that those who remain are good police. Those who are named and know for themselves that they are involved in illegal drugs, you should put them aside. There are plenty of skillful and good-willed Filipinos who want to be policemen.]
