GMA-7’s epic telefantasya Encantadia has been highly anticipated by fans since it first aired in 2005. Now, its remake, is back on the primetime block of Kapuso network.
The pilot episode aired on July 18 at 7:45 pm, replacing the comedy drama Poor Senorita. It was pitted against Ang Probinsyano of ABS-CBN, whose lead star is Coco Martin.
The tension-filled episode of Ang Probinsyano showed the tragic past of Police Insp. Hector Mercurio (played by Cesar Montano). In the scene, the death of Hector’s wife was shown, where she was shot in the crossfire between the police and the rebels. Because of this, Hector developed an aversion and hatred for his fellow officers for preventing him from joining the mission. He gave up his badge and became a hitman because of this.
At the end of the episode (#FPJAPUltimatum), Cardo’s (Coco Martin) grandfather Delfin, played by Jaime Fabregas, was shot by a hitman during his surprise birthday celebration.
Meanwhile, Encantadia’s first episode revealed the history of Encantadia and how the ‘Inang Brilyante’ was divided into four elemental gems of fire, wind, water, and earth by Cassiopeia. It also introduced new characters: Adhara (Sunshine Dizon) and Amihan (Max Collins).
The remake is directed by Mark Reyes and the main cast is composed of Kylie Padilla, Gabbi Garcia, Sanya Lopez, and Glaiza de Castro—the four Sang’gres. They were not yet featured on the pilot episode but viewers were able to see Marian Rivera as Ynang Reyna Mina-a, Dingdong Dantes (Raquim), Rocco Nacino (Aquil), John Arcilla (Hagorn), Solenn Heussaff (Cassiopeia), among others.
The remake of the hit fantaserya of GMA beat its rival program of ABS-CBN. Accroding to AGB Nielsen, Encantadia’s pilot episode scored 26.1% while Ang Probinsyano 24.2%. This is only in Urban Luzon.
The nationwide ratings gathered by Kantar Media-TNS, however, has different results.
Ang Probinsyano garnered 42.4% while Encantadia trailed behind with a national rating of 21%.
In rural areas and Metro Manila, the former scored 45.2%, the latter 18.8%.
The Kapamilya show also scored higher in Metro Manila alone, according to the data gathered by Kantar. Ang Probinsyano garnered 38.4% while the telefantasya scored 24.1%.
