Pokemon GO creators to remove real-world locations in the game?

The creators of the famous reality game app Pokemon GO are currently working to remove real-world locations that don’t wish to be included in the mobile gaming sensation. This was disclosed in an Associated Press article that was posted on CTV News.

Reports say that the Pokemon Company’s consumer marketing director J.C. Smith said in an interview that they’re updating the augmented-reality game “so it remains fun for players but respects the real world.”



“When something is really popular, we have to figure out the most respectful way to deal with it and make sure that everyone is playing safely and doing things in a respectful manor,” Smith said. “It’s only been two weeks since it was launched, and there’s been so much attention and so many people playing that it’s tough to think of all the ways it could affect the world.”

Pokemon GO is built on Niantic’s Real World Gaming Platform and uses real locations to encourage players to search for Pokemons in the real world.

“Pokemon GO allows you to find and catch more than a hundred species of Pokemon as you explore your surroundings. The Pokemon video game series has used real-world locations such as the Hokkaido and Kanto regions of Japan, New York, and Paris as inspiration for the fantasy settings in which its games take place. In Pokémon GO, the real world will be the setting!” it was stated on Pokemon’s website.
