Newly-elected senator Leila de Lima has expressed that she would not be intimidated despite the “incessant vicious attacks” made against her in the social media.
According to de Lima, she is aware that she’s the subject of these attacks but she doesn’t intend to dignify them by looking into who’s behind and why. “It will just be a waste of time. Pinapa sa Diyos ko na lang mga ganyan,” she said.
This was mostly regarding the viral video which allegedly showed her being close with one of the country’s purported top drug lords, Herbert Colangco, during an event last year. The senator has already clarified that the man was not Colangco, but was Representative Alfred Vargas.
De Lima said that she was “practically defenceless” against the attacks from netizens. “My only defense is a clear conscience and my fidelity to the Constitution and the law,” she said. “But if they think I will be cowed or intimidated, they’re grossly mistaken!”
She filed a resolution in the Senate that calls for an “urgent” investigation on the spate of extrajudicial killings and summary executions of suspected criminals in the country. | ASCS - FNPH
