The late President Ferdinand E. Marcos, Sr. is set to be buried at Libingan ng mga Bayani on September 18.
According to Coconuts Manila, the late president’s son and namesake, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr., said President Rodrigo Duterte has given his go signal for the burial when they met at Malacañang a few days ago.

The former senator, who ran and lost in the vice presidential race to Leni Robredo during the May 9 elections, said he and his sister, Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos, have been coordinating with key officials of the Armed Forces of the Philippines who administer the heroes’ cemetery, the designated resting place for Filipino soldiers, war veterans, and citizens considered as heroes and martyrs.
Asked why they chose September 18 and not September 11, the late president’s birthday, as the burial date, Marcos, Jr. said: “We want another day to celebrate, and not only on his birth or death anniversary.”
Before the burial date, the late strongman’s remains would be brought to Sarrat and then to Paoay in Ilocos Norte so the Ilocanos could pay their last respects to him.
Human rights victims during the Martial Law years of the late president’s reign and other critics are vehemently opposing his burial at Libingan ng mga Bayani; saying it would be an affront to the thousands of lives tortured and murdered during his reign if he is buried alongside the country’s heroes.
