Duterte to name 27 local execs in drug trade this week

President Rodrigo Duterte is set to name the 27 local government executives allegedly involved in illegal drug trade across the country; this was according to his presidential legal counsel, Salvador Panelo.
Panelo told reporters the President has decided to finally reveal the identities of these LGU execs, which could prove to be ‘shocking’, based on intelligence reports.

“My God, you will be shocked,” said Panelo. “Basta ako marami akong may kakilala pero ilalabas niya raw, sabi niya either tonight or tomorrow.” [I knew some of these people but he (Duterte) said he will reveal them, either tonight or tomorrow.
Panelo, however, declined to confirm whether the list include Metro Manila mayors but he hinted some of the personalities came from prominent families, and mostly are from the provinces.

Duterte supposedly acknowledged knowing some of the names in the list, Panelo said.
“Basta ang sabi ni Presidente, ‘Kilala ko ito pero I have a duty to serve and protect the people,” Panelo added. [But the President said, ‘I know this but I have a duty to serve and protect the people.]
He also urge the public to just wait for the President’s announcement for “impact”.
Even before Duterte formally assumed the presidency, he already tagged 35 local executives for their alleged links to the illegal drug trade in the country.
Back then, he did not name the personalities in public; hoping that these so-called ‘narco-politicians’ will eventually confess and surrender themselves to avoid embarrassment.
On Tuesday, August 2, Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Jr. surrendered to Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa after Duterte gave him an ultimatum.
Espinosa’s son Kerwin, however, remains at large and the PNP said the ‘shoot-on-sight’ order still stands against the alleged biggest drug lord in Eastern Visayas.
