In the final Pool Matches on Friday July 8, USA overcame
China 3-0 and Brazil outclassed Russia by the same score leaving the
FIVB Group 1 semi-finals lineup as Brazil against Netherlands and USA
play Russia.
The USA China match was closely fought finishing 3-0 (25-21, 26-24,
25-21) to USA. The 3-0 win gave Netherlands 2nd place in Pool J after
their 3-2 win over China the day before.
Although Brazil overcame Russia in the other Pool Match the scoring
was tighter finishing 27-25, 26-24, 25-19 to Brazil. Brazil topped Pool K
and Russia finished runners up.
The Brazil against Netherlands and USA vs Russia semi-finals take
place on Saturday afternoon July 9 and the finals are on Sunday July 10.
The first Final will pit China against Thailand (12 noon start) for
5th place playoff. Then the losers of the semi-finals will play at 3pm
for 3rd/4th places, and the final is scheduled to start at 6pm Bangkok
time.
