PH Commission on Women says Sen. Tito Sotto guilty of ‘victim blaming’

The Philippine Commission on Women said Sen. Tito Sotto and his co-hosts are guilty of “victim blaming” They berated a woman contestant who said she was abused by a drinking buddy Officials of the program have already been summoned by the MTRCB The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) denounced what it calls “victim blaming” on the part of Senator Tito Sotto and his fellow hosts in the noontime variety program Eat Bulaga. According to the PCW, Sotto and his co-hosts “crossed the line” when they berated a contestant for her choice of clothing and going out to drink after she shared how she was allegedly abused by one of her male drinking companions. In its statement, the Commission pointed out that this was a clear example of victim blaming, while noting that women should not be faulted for cases of abuse and harassment. “These are clear examples of victim blaming and shaming which can be likened to fault-finding against rape and sexual harassment victims who were blamed for wearing sexy outfits, getting drunk or walking alone in dark streets. Women should never carry the guilt and blame and likewise restrict their freedom and desires.
