Over P5 billion released by DSWD for more than 1 million indigent senior citizens


The DSWD released over P5 billion for the monthly stipend of senior citizens 1,368,941 senior citizens benefitted from the department’s Social Pension Program The SPP provides that indigent senior citizens aged 60 years old and above should receive P500 in cash assistance a month The Department of Social Welfare and Development has released over P5 billion for the monthly stipends of more than 1 million indigent senior citizens. Rainier Allan Ronda of Philstar wrote that according to the Social Welfare department, 1,368,941 senior citizens have benefited from its Social Pension Program. As of the month  of June, the DSWD had released a total of P5,034,219,741.43 cash stipends. Qualified for the department’s SPP are senior citizens who have no permanent source of income, frail, sickly or with disabilities as well as those who do not receive pension from the Social Security System, Government Service Insurance System or Philippine Veterans Affairs Office. DSWD Secretary Judy Taguiwalo said the SPP provides that indigent senior citizens aged 60 years old and above should receive P500 in cash assistance a month.
