After reading a viral post about a man who was mistaken for a drug peddler in Gil Puyat, Christian Jay Bautista thought about how to protect himself from a similar untoward incident.
"'Yung route niya ay route ko almost everyday sa work kung saan siya nahuli," Bautista told GMA News Online via an online exchange. "So naisip ko, ano kayang pwedeng gawin para hindi ako maghinalaan maski never pa ako nag drugs?"
Bautista, a freelancer in the advertising industry, figured wearing his NBI clearance around his neck might be the thing he was looking for that is, as he put it, "more valid than a cardboard."
Baustista didn't wear the tag out in public, but many found his post humorous, even if it wasn't necessarily intended as a joke. Some even suggested that he include a drug test on his tag.
"Ang nasa isip ko kasi eh parang, ano pa bang gagawin ko pa para mapakita sa kanila na hindi lahat pusher, na normal na civilian lang ako na natatakot na sa nangyayari lalo na't gabi nadin ako nakakauwi galing trabaho," he explained.
The current climate in the city, he said, has made him paranoid, "Hindi ko na alam sino ang kakampi."
Asked what the safety precautions he takes that does not involve actually wearing an NBI clearance, he said, "Para siguro mas safe, always bring your IDs lang and stay calm kapag ganoon. Nasa satin na siguro kung pano natin ihahandle sarili natin kapag sa situation na napagbintangan ka." —JST, GMA News
