President Rodrigo Duterte has expressed his intentions on Thursday that he will fulfill his promise to the policemen and soldiers regarding their doubled salary within the year.
During his stay in Zamboanga City, Duterte told the uniformed men that according to his Budget Secretary, the pay hike was not yet included in the proposed 2017 budget.
The Philippine Drug enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) are to be included in the pay hike as well.
“This will take effect this year. Dahan-dahan lang tayo kasi wala masyadong pera,” the President said. “Remember that I entered the presidency midstream so I have to just make a go of what’s available. But uunahin ko kayo.”
Afterwards, the president visited injured solders at the Camp Navarro General Hospital. This was located in the Western Mindanao Command headquarters.
Duterte was jovial with them, chatting, joking and taking pictures with them. He handed each of them a brown envelope, which could have been financial assistance.
