Crime rates decreasing thanks to war on drugs—PNP

From 52,950 reported incidents of crime in January, the PNP recorded only 46,060 in June. In a press release on the PNP website, Chief Supt. Camilo Pancratius Cascolan— Director of the Directorate for Operations— attributed the decrease to the PNP’s intense anti-drug drive, namely operations “Project Double Barrel” and “Tokhang.” Cascolan also expressed optimism the pattern would continue as the PNP continues its campaign. According to its data, the police have so far netted 3,213 drug personalities under Project Double Barrel while another 112,902 dependents and 7,107 have turned themselves in. 239 drug suspects were also killed in police operations as of July 22.
