A billionaire offered $120 million to any man who can make her gay daughter straight.
Hong Kong tycoon Cecil Chao Sze-tsung claimed he “respects” her daughter’s lifestyle, but preferred having grandchildren who will take over the family business.
At first, his daughter Gigi Chao, who was openly gay, laughed at the situation. But the offer made his wife Sean Eav very “distraught.” She penned an open letter to him to stop his offer and accept Sean, who’s been with her for more than 9 years.
She wrote (via South China Morning Post):
“I’m not asking you to be best of friends [with Sean]; however, it would mean the world to me if you could just not be so terrified of her, and treat her like a normal, dignified human being.
“I’m sorry to mislead you to think I was only in a lesbian relationship because there was a shortage of good, suitable men in Hong Kong.
“There are plenty of good men, they are just not for me.”
After Gigi’s letter, the shipping magnate withdrew the bounty and told the media he “respects her choice.”
Gigi, who never wanted the attention, became a symbol of “hope” for Hong Kong’s LGBT youth. She is currently an LGBT activist and is a founding member of gay rights group Big Love Alliance.
