"As of this time (2 a.m. Saturday), initial report 14 (are) dead," the Commander Milgrace Driz of Buhangin Police Station said. The injured people were taken to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC), Limso Hospital, Davao Doctors Hospital and Brokenshire Hospital.
The Vice Mayor of Davao City, Paolo Duterte released their statement about the incident.
"Let us pray for the victims of this unfortunate incident, especially for those who died. Let us pray for those who are being treated in different hospitals and pray for their quick recovery. There are at least 10 people who perished because of the incident and a number were reported wounded."
"Rest assured the authorities are on top of this incident. Right now, we cannot yet give definite answer to as to who is behind this as we are also trying to determine what really exploded. It's a sad day for Davao and for the Philippines," he added.
The Police Regional Office (PRO)-Davao Director Manuel Gaerlan said that an investigation is being conducted regarding the incident. The angle that they are looking at also includes the possibility of having a liquified petroleum gas cause the blast.
A terrifying explosion happened at the night market located in Corner Padre Gomez St., Roxas Avenue, Davao City around 9:51p.m. According to the authorities, the casualties have risen up to 14 and 60 others are in need of medical attention after being injured.
