Pres. Duterte and Pres. Obama were supposed to hold a bilateral a bilateral meeting but the latter decided to cancel because of Pres. Duterte controversial response during the pre-departure press briefing when he was asked about how he would deal with questions specifically coming from the US president regarding human rights and extra-judicial killings.

The United States National Security Council spokesman Ned Price announced that the two leaders’ meeting will not push through. Obama instead will meet with South Korean President Park Geun-Hye.
“President Obama will not be holding a bilateral meeting with President Duterte of the Philippines this afternoon,” Price said.
According to an article published by GMA News Online, the Philippine president had expressed regret for his tirade against Pres.Obama.

A statement released by President Duterte read: “While the immediate cause was my strong comments to certain press questions that elicited concern and distress we also regret it came across as a personal attack on the US president.”
