If the incoming president Rodrigo Duterte decides not to use the Malacañang Palace the vice president-elect Leni Robredo might.
Georgina Hernandez, the spokesperson of Robredo told ANC reporters
that having the office of the vice president in the palace is a
possibility.
“The option of VP holding office in Malacañang has not yet been discussed, but it is an option,” Hermandez said.
The current vice president Jejomar Binay currently stays and works at
the Coconut Palace in Manila and reportedly it has a P500,000 rent and
operating cost which opted Robredo to look for cheaper alternatives.
“Robredo thinks this (P500,000 a month) is too much just to support the operating expenses of one office,” Hernandez said.
Duterte earlier said that he doesn’t like Malacañang Palace and
prefers that it would be open to the public, he is looking at Arlegui
Mansion (Cory Mansion) instead.
“In order not to incur so much expenses, pinapatingnan ko yung bahay
ni President (Cory) Aquino (the Arlegui mansion near Malacañang, which
served as the official residence of President Corazon Aquino from 1986
to 1992 and President Fidel Ramos from 1992 to 1998).” he said.
